
I like to learn about people, myself included.
Natural curiosity propels my exploration. Compassion pulls me toward people who've suffered injustice as if they are a magnet and I a copper penny. Indignation and integrity fuel my search for truth.
My ability to give voice to people's stories through writing is the reason people invite me to enter into the sacred space of their lives. Their stories flow through my soul's sieve, which catches truth and lessons that transform me in some minute or grand way.
And then I pass their stories to you.
As I travel internationally to write about the work of Mennonite Central Committee, an international relief, development and peacebuilding organization, I have the privilege of being invited into people's lives, homes and hearts. I share their stories with MCC's supporters and faith-based media.
For 10 years I wrote award-winning news features for the Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster's morning newspaper, now Lancaster Newspapers. I'm especially proud of my series that exposed abuse, supported by some church leaders, among Lancaster's County's Amish and conservative Mennonite churches.

During my master's program in writing at Johns Hopkins University, I wrote personal essays about my conflicted relationship with my Mennonite father. Some of them have been submitted for publication and may someday become a memoir. In the process, I have learned that I like writing personal essay. That is my growing edge.
